        For me as a non-dentist it is about exploring individual dentists’ lives and seeing how they lived and worked over different periods of time. Working practices, professionalisation, materials, equipment – so much has changed. Seeing how individuals work within their environment is what I enjoy researching. Bringing personalities to life in their own environments.

          There is always so much to learn about the past and always new things to discover. Sharing information is very important and having opportunities to chat and pick lots of different peoples brains is so useful!

            I agree with the above.
            Also if you lose the history, you don’t learn from what went well and you tend to repeat your mistakes!

              The History of Dentistry is important to me on a few levels: –

              1. It allows me to continue to engage in the profession that I no longer practise.
              2. It makes use of the recent education that I’ve achieved in genealogical and historical medical research.
              3. It’s allowing me to make new friends and colleagues in a collaborative way.
              4. It’s an avenue for me to uncover stories and lifestyles of former dentists and DCPs.

              I’m really looking forward to expanding my researching and collaborative skills within the Lindsay Society.

                At the moment, my interest is in the history of the politics of the introduction of third parties – eg the NHS – into that patient/dentist relationship.
                This might change
                More generally, the people and personalities of the past.
